Patricia Velasquez is a South American Indian born in Guajira, Venezuela on January 31, 1971. She is the fifth child out of six and was raised by her parents, both of whom were trained as teachers. After she graduated in high school in 1987, she headed for college to study engineering and accounting.

However, after a year in college, Velasquez went to Milan to pursue a modeling career. She glides on catwalks for some of the top designers such as Antonio Berardi, Bella Freud, Corinne Cobson, Claude Montana and Dolce & Gabana in 1998. She also appeared in ads for Chanel’s Allure, Roberto Verino's Verino fragrance, as well in Victoria's Secret. In 1994, she posed on swimsuits for Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition at the age of 23. She has joined in the Miss Venezuela pageant.

She stopped modeling in 1997 to study acting in Los Angeles and New York. She is now fluent in English, French and Italian, as well as her native Spanish. Velasquez has appeared in films including “Le Jaguar” in1996, “Eruption” (1997), “Beowulf,” “No Vacancy,” “Facade,” “The Mummy,” “Committed,” “Turn It Up” (2000) and “The Mummy Returns” in 2001.

She is participating actively in causes for the advancement of the Hispanics, fair treatment for indigenous people and initiated the foundation that helps her fellow Venezuelans.
