| She is beyond beauty! At present, Natalie Portman is one of the leading
actors of her generation. She was born on June 9, 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel
but sooner after her birth, her family moved to Maryland. At age 7, she
moved to Connecticut and lest at age 9 for Long Island where her family
stayed for good until now. Natalie was raised by a doctor father and an
artist mother. Actually, Portman is her grandmother’s maiden name. The spotlight came to her in a pizza parlor at age 11 by a modeling agent from Revlon and was swayed to pursue a modeling career but was not convinced enough because of her desire for acting. Beyond beauty, Natalie is also a straight-A student who attends an Ivy League institution. At the age of 8, she adhered to a medical conference together with her father, who is a fertility specialist. Joining the conference transformed her into a vegetarian when during the convention she catched sight of a chicken undergoing a hand laser surgery. Beyond beauty, Natalie has a strong conviction on her personal beliefs. As a proof, she turned down the role of Juliet in the flick remake of Romeo and Juliet because of the age gap between her and Leonardo DiCaprio. In a similar case, she also turned down a role in Adrian Lyne's controversial remake of Lolita because of the required nudity and she critically opposes exploitation of children. Turning down projects, she instead proceeded to Broadway and starred in the revised version of "The Diary of Anne Frank." This Broadway debut of Natalie obtained positive remarks from critics for her Broadway debut noting her sprightly play on the role. Beyond beauty is intelligence. Perhaps most of young actors and actresses obtained formal learning through tutors and exclusive private schools but Natalie chose to attend in public school. With such intelligence, she got to Harvard University where she is now having her doctorial studies. Beyond beauty, Natalie acts well. What paved the way to stardom for Natalie started in her debut movie in Luke Besson’s The Professional a.k.a. Leon where she played the role of Mahtilda and costarred Jean Reno at age 12. Other movies where she took part are Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996) and Mars Attacks! (1996). Beautiful Girls (1996) and Anywhere But Here (1999) where she costarred Susan Surandon where she was nominated as best supporting actress for the Golden Globe. She was able to work with directors Michael Mann, Tim Burton and Woody Allen. Her legendary role certainly was as Queen Amidala on George Lucas’ $431 million grossing prequel Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace in 1999.
