| If you think Natalie Portman played both the role of Queen Amadila and
her decoy in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in 1999, you are
mistaken! Queen Amadala’s decoy happened to be Kiera Knightley. She was born on March 26, 1985 in Teddington, London, England, UK Kiera to actor Will Knightley and playwright Sharman Macdonald. With so much eagerness, she started to work on productions in her summer days at a tender age of three after she pleaded to her parents to find her an agent. When she reached the age of 9, Kiera was able to obtain a role in Moira Armstrong's A Village Affair in 1994. However, her big break was considerably established in 1999 when she played Decoy Queen to Queen Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Since then, she’s been engaging in more projects like the television series Oliver Twist and Princess of Thieves, the TV adaptation of the classic Dr. Zhivago, the movie The Hole in 2001 and in the British comedy hit Bend It Like Beckcham in 2002 where she played as Jules Paxton – the tomboy football player. The next year she has been cast opposite Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in Disney’s hit movie Pirates of the Caribbean. A movie where she wished she could have fought using sword instead of just using candlestick and a long gold pole. With the ongoing rave Kiera has been receiving, she was named by Entertainment Weekly as the top breakout star of 2003. In 2004, Tatler announced that she is the most desirable single woman in Britain. She also signed up as the new face of British luxury goods makers Asprey. Apart from her acting career, Kiera is a member of the Heatham House Youth Project. |
