The birth of Jewel’s musical journey started in performing with her parents in Homer, Alaska at age six in tourist attractions and Eskimo Villages.

Her parents soon divorced and she remained with her father and for seven years touring with him. Jewel attended the well-known Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan through a scholarship grant. It was during those times that Jewel was able to write several songs. After graduating, she continued her journey with her mother in San Diego sustaining an everyday living through 9-5 day-jobs.

She became a traveler when finally decided to focus on her singing career. With her van she moved from place to place writng and composing songs with her guitar. She had her first regular gig at a coffeeeshop in Pacific Beach – Interchange. With a voice that’s so powerful expressing her inner self, she became a must-see for the local people.

In early 1995, she signed for Atlantic where she had her debut LP Pieces of You. At the outset, the record did not receive such great notice even in to the Billboard pop charts.
It took 14 months for the record to boom where the singles “Who Will Save Your Soul,” “You Were Meant for Me” (co-written with musician Steve Poltz) and “Foolish Games” became a major hit. The album became a best-seller.

Her follow-thru titled Night Without Armor sprouted materialized in 1998. This featured an anthology of her spoken-word poetry and later that same year, Spirit, her second album emerged along with the Joy: A Holiday Celebration album. In the fall of 2000, Chasing Down the Dawn was produced.

She and her manager-mother, Lenedra Carroll, was able to form a company called Magic Lantern Entertainment. Their initial film script, WAVE, was an ensemble drama by screenwriter David Rothmiller.

A genuine star in her own craft, the International Star Registry reassigned the star number Ursa Minor 15h38m42s 75°58'37'' to her name (Jewel of the North) on behalf of the Everyday Angels.
