Charlize Therone (Charlie) is the only child and spent her childhood on a farm outside Benoni, South Africa. She underwent ballet schooling and has danced both The Swan Lake and the Nutcracker Suite. Their family owned both a farm and a road construction company.

Blessed with a height of 5' 9½" (1.77 m), she also entered the world of modeling preliminary in her native homeland South Africa before pursuing a career as a ballerina in the United States with the Joffrey Ballet, long before she commenced her voyage into the film industry.

In 1995, a career-ending knee injury forced Charlize to go back with modeling as her fall back so that ended her childhood fantasy of being a ballerina. Anxious on Charlize’s angst and realizing also of her daughter’s dream of becoming an actress her mother sent money for a one way ticket to the big City of Southern California but sooner found out that her travel agent had booked her on a plane to LA.

A stranger in the city, Charlize remained intrepid and two weeks later on Hollywood Boulevard, an agent handed over his card to her. In eight months time, she got her first part. After eight months in LA she got her first part. In view of this fact, Charlize took acting lessons which sooner gave her a leverage on her new found career path.

Charlize’s film debut that graced moviegoers and critics was MGM’s "2 Days in the Valley," costarring James Spader, Jeff Daniels and Eric Stoltz. In this movie, Charlize was able to showcase her brilliancy in acting which paved the way to more exciting movies.

In 1997 she played a role in the movie "Trial and Error" for New Line Cinema opposite Michael Richards and "2 Days in the Valley" where she co-starred Jeff Daniels. Come fall of the same year, she appeared on the motion picture afresh co-starring with Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in the box office hit, "Devils Advocate.” Moving on, she captured the eye of the two-time Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks which made her star on his debut directorial film "That Thing You Do." Who could have forgotten "Sweet November,” “Curse of the Jade Scorpion” and a lot more?
