| With a blend of Cuban-American and Anglo-German-Native genes, there came
the stunning Cameron Diaz. Cameron was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego,
California and was raised, alongside her sister Chimene in Long Beach.
She studied in Long Beach Poly Class of 1990 in California and once she reached 16, Cameron entered the world of modeling. At a Hollywood party, she came across a well connected man, Jeff Dunas, who spotted her and encouraged her to sign up fro a modeling career with the Elite modeling agency. Since then, she voyaged around the world working in Australia, Japan, Paris, Morocco, and Mexico. She also had appearances in commercials like Nivea, LA Gear and Coke. At the age of 21, she had a homecoming in California. An amateur in acting, she was casted in her breakthrough film, in the hyper-animated lust The Mask as Tina Carlyle opposite Jim Carrey which also boosted her acting career in Hollywood. Though contradictory to her instant claimed fame, Cameron steered clear on probable blockbusters to give way on indie-movies such as The Last Supper, Feeling Minnesota co-starring Keanu Reeves, and Head Above Water, in which she casted as Harvey Keitel's wife, to hone her novice but undoubtedly excellent skills. Though these flicks did not hit the box-office, she was able to gain amount of respect as an actress. With good vibe in her acting ability, she made a U-turn again towards the big screen with the movie My Best Friends Wedding (1997) co-starring the phenomenal Julia Roberts. It was at this point that she was acknowledged for her string of movie triumphs by naming her the ShoWest Female Star of Tomorrow by The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO). It was however, a role in There's Something About Mary that really turned Cameron into a household name co-starring Ben Stiller and Matt Dillon. With her good comic timing, this $23 million –budgeted film was a smash hit hauling in over $170 million in the US alone. With a proven acting ability, string of roles rolled up. In 2000 Cameron, was cast in the much-hyped big screen version of the television classic Charlie’s Angel with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu really. She graced the voice of Princess Fiona in the animated box-office smash Shrek. Subsequently, she had Vanilla Sky. She gained more publicity with the comedy The Next Best Thing and revisited to the birthplace of America in through the movie Gangs of New York. She is throned as the second actress to join the "$20 Million Club" after Julia Roberts with Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. She again imparted her voice on Shrek 2 and again appeared in Fun with Dick and Jane. |
